Chicago Police investigate off-campus crimes
Chicago Police are investigating three crimes — two robberies and an attempted robbery — that occurred July 5 near campus. None of the crime victims is affiliated with UIC.
In an armed robbery about 2 a.m. near West Taylor and Ada streets, a man lost cash and cellphone after he was approached by three black male teen offenders. One youth displayed a handgun. The three then walked eastbound on Taylor Street.
Three men in a silver-colored Chevy Cruze got out of their car about 6:50 p.m. near West Lexington and South Loomis streets and demanded property from a man on the street. The men drove away, but witnesses followed and obtained the license plate number and vehicle description.
An attempted armed robbery occurred about 9:30 p.m. near Arrigo Park, 800 S. Loomis St. A man was approached by three others, but he refused to give up his property and they fled through the park. One man was described as a black male, about 5-foot-11, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark basketball shorts. The others were described only as black males.
