Police arrest youth for robbery near campus
UIC Police arrested one suspect and are seeking several others after a strong-arm robbery and two attempted robberies were reported in near campus July 26.
The first was about 6:30 a.m., reported by a UIC employee. He said that while walking in the 800 block of South Loomis Street, he was approached by three young men. One punched him in the face while another tried to take his backpack, but the three fled empty-handed after a brief struggle.
In the afternoon, a student told police she was followed by three teens while walking in the 1500 block of West Polk Street. One ran toward her and unsuccessfully tried to grab her backpack before the three fled east.
At 2:50 p.m., a robbery was reported in the 1300 block of West Lexington Street.
The victim said three offenders came up from behind and one held him while the others went through his pockets. They ran off with his cell phone and other possessions.
Responding officers saw three suspects matching the victim’s descriptions walking south on Ashland Avenue from Polk Street. They fled, but one was captured and later identified by the victim.
A juvenile, he was charged with strong-arm robbery.

July 28: A man was arrested for driving while license revoked at 5:57 p.m. at 1041 S. Halsted St.
