UIC to host Chinese aging experts
UIC will host experts on aging from Shanghai at a forum, “Global Aging and Quality Services: Tales of Shanghai and Chicago.”
The half-day forum is part of the Chicago Sister Cities International’s Chicago-Shanghai Social Services Exchange Program.
An interdisciplinary panel from Chicago and Shanghai will be moderated by Naoko Muramatsu, associate professor of community health sciences in the UIC School of Public Health. Presentations will be given in English and Chinese. Attendees will learn about opportunities and challenges facing the two global cities, whose populations are rapidly aging.

- Jin Long, old-age programs research fellow, Shanghai Research Center on Aging
DETAILS: Shanghai has a population of over 24 million, and 2.7 million of its residents are 65 or older, roughly equal to Chicago’s entire population. Chicago is facing the challenge of delivering services for aging Chicagoans, including the large tide of baby boomers. The forum will bring together experts from both cities to discuss policies to provide services for aging populations.
