Objectives:
- Provide a clear definition of physician assisted suicide as a form of euthanasia
- Distinguish between “freedom of indifference” & “freedom to flourish” via two cases
- Ponder which “freedom” provides best basis for informed consent

About the Presenter:
Fr. Christopher M. Saliga is both a Dominican Priest and a Registered Nurse. He currently serves as an associate chaplain of the Saint John Paul II Newman Center at the University of Illinois–Chicago, where he also serves as interim director of The Integritas Institute for Ethics, Bioethics Branch.
Immediately following ordination as a Roman Catholic Priest, he served as a health care chaplain and ethicist with the Dominican Friars Health Care Ministry of New York at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
After three years in New York he served a three-year contract at Walsh University as the University Chaplain and as an adjunct instructor of philosophical bioethics.
He later served as the associate chaplain of Aquinas House at Dartmouth College, regularly presented on topics in clinical ethics at the invitation of a diverse group of students at the Geisel School of Medicine, and taught courses for the Waterman Institute, an ecumenical Faith-and-Reason-based organization.
Fr. Chris is an alumnus of The Franciscan University of Steubenville Department of Nursing, and an alumnus of The Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception. He is also a military veteran having served honorably as a United States Army combat medic and paratrooper, and later as a United States Navy nurse corps officer with both Navy and Marine Corps branches.
Upon completion of his active military service, Fr. Chris returned to The Franciscan University of Steubenville Department of Nursing where he served as a clinical nursing instructor until he entered the Dominican Order in 1998.
