Finding jobs for military veterans
Student veterans looking for a job could be hired on the spot at an employment fair Thursday in the UIC Forum.
The 100,000 Jobs Mission Hiring Event — a job fair for U.S. military veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses — will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
About 600 UIC students are also veterans, said Annette Wright, director of the Student Veterans Affairs office. Recruiters will be hiring on the spot for full- and part-time positions, she said.
“There are many job fairs where there’s a possibility that they may or may not hire you,” Wright said. “The whole point is to get students hired.”
Attendees should register online and upload their résumé. They should dress professionally and bring additional copies of their résumé, Wright said.
Representatives from more than 40 companies will be at the fair, hosted by the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of more than 50 companies committed to hiring at least 100,000 military veterans by 2020.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity,” Wright said.
The event is sponsored by UIC, Joining Forces, Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, Illinois Department of Employment Security, American Legion, Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Student Veterans of America, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
