LOL Thursday

The third annual LOL@UIC, a free comedy show for the UIC community, takes place Thursday at the UIC Forum.

The event, sponsored by the UIC Student Activities Board,  features headliner Whitney Cummings and opener Barry Brewer.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. A valid i-card is required for admission.

The first 480 guests will receive LOL@UIC beanies.

Cummings started her comedy career in 2004 and was named one of the “10 Comics To Watch” by Variety in 2007. She is creator of the 2011-13 NBC series “Whitney,” and co-creator of the CBS sitcom “2 Broke Girls.” Cummings has also appeared on Comedy Central roasts of Donald Trump, Joan Rivers and David Hasselhoff. Her HBO stand-up special, “I’m Your Girlfriend,” premiered Saturday.

Chancellor’s office hours

UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis will hold office hours Monday where students and employees can share their opinions on campus issues.

The event takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. in Illinois Room A, Student Center East.

Additional office hours will be scheduled March 1 and April 1.

Museum studies publication

Submissions are due Feb. 1 for the inaugural Museum and Exhibition Studies Publication.

Students can submit art, essays, creative writing, interviews, poetry, love letters and other creative forms analyzing, critiquing, and encouraging new thinking about museums and exhibitions.

The publication will be produced and edited by UIC museum and exhibition studies graduate students.

Recognizing student service

Nominations are now being accepted for the Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards.

The volunteerism and leadership awards include the Chancellor’s Student Service Award, Eugertha Bates Memorial Award and Jane Addams Distinguished Service Award. Students may also be nominated for induction into the Activities Honorary Society. Outstanding undergraduate, graduate and professional students who have given their time and talent to campus or community service can be nominated for the awards.

Nominations can be submitted until 5 p.m. Feb. 12.

Winners will be presented awards at the 44th Annual Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards Ceremony April 14.

Undergrads can win $5,000

Deadline is Friday for UIC undergraduates to enter the annual Maurice Prize Competition sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Students should undertake a project of their choice that addresses an issue, showing knowledge, creative use of resources and the ability to work with others to find solutions.

The winner — an individual or team — receives $5,000.

Snow removal hotline

During and after a winter storm, Facilities Management crews work around the clock to clear building entrances, streets, sidewalks and parking lots. Priority is always given to the hospital and clinics, disability-access entrances and parking spaces, emergency routes and public walkways.

Report problems related to snow and ice to the 24/7 snow removal hotline, 5-SNOW (312-355-7669). Provide location, time and a phone number or e-mail address for follow-up.

Green projects

The first step for student proposals to help make UIC a greener campus are due Feb. 15 to the Sustainability Fee Advisory Board.

The Sustainability Fee, $3 per semester paid by all UIC students, funds small, short-term projects, helps subsidize larger, long-term projects and helps fund student travel to related conferences.

The advisory board includes students, faculty and staff.

All UIC students and student organizations are eligible to apply.
