Awards and honors

J. Usha Raj, professor of pediatrics, has earned two recent honors.

Raj is the recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Thoracic Society. She was honored at the ATS 2016 International Conference in San Francisco this week.

She was also selected to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. She will receive the award in June.

Thomas Anderson, assistant professor of radiology, was named president of the Illinois State Medical Society.

James Pellegrino, distinguished professor of psychology and education and co-director of the Learning Sciences Research Institute, has been named recipient of the 2016 Jason Millman Scholar Award from the Consortium for Research on Educational Assessment and Teaching Effectiveness (CREATE). The award annually recognizes a scholar whose work in educational research, evaluation and assessment has contributed greatly to the field, while advancing the use of educational evaluation and assessment in the service of education.

Pellegrino will be honored in the fall during the 2016 CREATE Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, where he will present a lecture.

Senior Kristin Krogmeier was selected by the College of Nursing Alumni Board Awards Committee to receive the Cardew Mullane Award for Leadership and Clinical Excellence. Krogmeier was recognized for academic achievement, as well as competence, innovation and advocacy in her nursing practice at a rural family health clinic.

Retention specialist Jessica Fogarty was selected by graduating RN to BSN students to receive a 2016 Undergraduate Award for Staff Excellence. She is a four-time recipient of the award.

Grayson Pajkos, Honors College sophomore majoring in economics and political science, was awarded a scholarship from the Fund for Education Abroad. Pajkos is among 25 students to earn the nationally competitive $10,000 award to apply toward their study abroad program costs during the 2016-17 academic year.

While attending Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, he will be enrolled in Korean language classes and major-related courses with Eastern perspectives.
