Appointments

Michelle Howard Rynn, clinical assistant professor of restorative dentistry, was appointed as a dental educator representative on the American College of Prosthodontists Council for the American Board of Prosthodontics.

Bin Yang, clinical assistant professor of restorative dentistry, recently received the GlaxoSmithKline Prosthodontist Innovator Award from the American College of Prosthodontists.

Exhibits

Alexander Eisenschmidt, assistant professor of architecture, is exhibiting his work in the “Radical Urbanism” section of the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture in Shenzhen, China. His work, titled “Collective City,” “explores spatial, organizational, and material ingenuities born out of the forces and pressures of the contemporary city.” The biennale runs through March 1.

Presentations

Joy Hammel, professor of occupational therapy, delivered the keynote address at a conference in Trondheim, Norway, on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, a framework to organize information on functioning and disability.

John Hagedorn, professor of criminology, law and justice, delivered a talk as part of Yale University’s Workshop in Urban Ethnography, a weekly series focused on the ethnographic interpretation of urban life and culture. Hagedorn’s talk focused on his latest book The In$ane Chicago Way.

Walter Podrazik, adjunct lecturer in communication, served as moderator of “Masterclass: The Ethics of Open Data,” a panel held in November as part of Social Media Week in Chicago.

Peter Orris, adjunct professor in environmental and occupational health sciences and professor and chief of service for the Great Lakes Center for Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety, gave the keynote address to the Public Health Association of South Africa on “The health sector’s impact on sustainable development: The evidence, current practices, and future directions.”

Steve Tozer, head of the Urban Education Leadership program, was among six education experts from around the U.S. who spoke in a Capitol Hill briefing in November. The panelists responded to a new report, “Developing Excellent School Principals to Advance Teaching and Learning: Considerations for State Policy.”
