Awards & Honors

Jeffrey Loeb, the John S. Garvin Endowed Chair in Neurology and professor and head of neurology and rehabilitation in the UIC College of Medicine, was honored at the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago’s Annual Hero’s Night Gala held Feb. 24 at the Field Museum. Dr. Loeb received the Distinguished Richard N. Rovner Hero Award.

The Conrad Festival, a Krakow, Poland-based event directed by Michał Paweł Markowski, the Stefan and Lucy Hejna Family Chair in Polish Language and Literature at UIC, was named among the top  20 literary festivals around the world by The Writers’ Academy.

Samantha Bond, visiting clinical assistant professor in biomedical visualization, was named a 2017 International Game Developers Association Women in Games Ambassador. Bond is also presenting a talk at the 2017 Annual AMI Conference July 23–27 in Austin, Texas.

 

Publications

Abagail McWilliams, associate dean and professor of management, recently had a chapter published in a volume on entrepreneurship. “Rethinking the Base of the Pyramid: Social Responsibility, Sustainability and the Role of Entrepreneurs,” in The World Scientific Reference on Entrepreneurship, Volume 3: Sustainability, Ethics and Entrepreneurship.

 

Presentations

Rachel Havrelock, associate professor of English and co-founder and principal investigator of UIC’s Freshwater Lab, will be in attendance for a Vatican address by Pope Francis on global water issues to mark World Water Day March 22. Havrelock, whose book River Jordan: The Mythology of a Dividing Line explores water sharing as an approach to Middle East peacemaking, will also attend WATERSHED, a corresponding international conference featuring policymakers, business leaders and academics.
