Appointment of Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of John Coronado, PE, PMP, as the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees, effective April 9, 2018.

Mr. Coronado currently serves as a Project Management Analyst at the United States Department of Energy and is responsible for a construction portfolio of 16 projects valued at over $26 billion.  A native Chicagoan, he received his Bachelor of Science in General Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He earned his Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering at the University of Florida and attended the Advanced Management Program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.  Mr. Coronado is a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Project Management Professional.

Mr. Coronado has more than three decades of experience managing complex engineering, construction, and facilities management programs.  Prior to his employment with the Department of Energy, he served for 30 years as a U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer.  Some of Mr. Coronado’s notable senior executive tours of duty with the Navy include serving as: Deputy Director for the Navy Shore Readiness Division (developing installation policies, programs and budgets for 16 major programs totaling over $9 billion annually); Deputy Fleet Engineer for United States Pacific Fleet; and Executive Officer at the Presidential Retreat, Camp David. He was also Commanding Officer of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Hawaii, serving as chief executive of an organization consisting of 1,600 individuals and delivering $650 million per year of facilities maintenance, operations, and construction services.

I want to thank the members of the search committee and the chair, Janet Parker, Associate Chancellor for Budget and Financial Administration, for their commitment and dedication to this important process.  Mr. Coronado will succeed Michael Landek, who has served as Interim Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services since April 1, 2017.
