Women’s golfer wins league championship

UIC senior Phon Angwarawong shot a three-round total of 226 at the Horizon League Championship that ended Sunday, becoming the first Flame in program history to win the individual title.
The women’s golf team recorded a fifth-place finish overall, shooting a 54-hole total of 974 during the event in Howley-in-the-Hills, Florida. Oakland captured the team title with a three-round total of 944.
Angwarawong has the program record for lowest score at the conference championship. She capped her last conference championship event with a 73, matching her all-time low-round score and the program record.
Angwarawong led the tournament with a total of 36 pars and was a team-best with six birdies. She has broken program records for scoring average (77.84), birdies (45) and lowest 18-hole (71) during her first season as a Flame.
Sophomore Jennifer Kim fired an 84 Sunday and tied for 21st overall with a 54-hole total of 248; she finished with 23 pars and four birdies. Freshman Kelly Sterling finished in a tie for 24th with a total of 249. Sterling was a team-best on the par 5s (E) and walked away with a total of 26 pars and two birdies.
Freshmen teammates Meghan Kramp (T32) and Ashley Miller (34) concluded their first championship with three-round totals of 255 and 257 respectively. Kramp fired an 84 in the third round and had 26 pars. Miller carded an 89 and had 25 pars and one birdie.
The Flames resume competition in the fall.
