Women’s basketball falls to Green Bay

The women’s basketball team ends a three-game homestand tonight, facing Cleveland State at 5 p.m. at the Pavilion.

The Flames (13-7, 3-4 Horizon League) fell, 64-45, at home to first-place Green Bay (17-3, 7-0 Horizon League) Saturday night. The Phoenix made 68 percent of their field goals and 4-of-9 attempts from downtown after halftime.

The Phoenix held the Flames to 30 percent shooting (18-of-60) and converted 44 percent (21-of-47) of their field goals. Green Bay drained eight three-pointers and held a 14-5 free throw advantage.

UIC outrebounded Green Bay, 40-36.

“Our defense kept us in the game in the first half but we needed to make more open shots to stay close,” head coach Regina Miller said. “Green Bay made their open looks in the second half and we did not. We have another tough test against Cleveland State and it is important to end the homestand with a victory.”

Ruvanna Campbell collected her fourth straight double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She has 15 double-doubles this season.

Terri Bender scored 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Melita Emanuel-Carr was 2-of-6 from three-point land and finished with eight points.

Caitlin Garant recorded two blocks and two steals on defense.

Green Bay finished the first half on a 9-2 run for a 26-18 advantage going into the locker room.

Kendyl Nunn’s free throws with 11:59 remaining trimmed Green Bay’s lead to 33-26. UIC could only get within seven points of Green Bay’s lead.
