What motivates you?
Music motivates me. It motivates me to never give up.
As college students, we have a lot to manage. We have to manage our time, multiple courses, grades and life outside of school. So it is normal for us to question the current situation we are facing and doubt whether we’re able to overcome it. Maybe we failed the midterm and feel that we won’t be able to pass the class.
I have been in this situation and it can kill your motivation. You feel like dropping the course and trying again next semester but don’t do it. They always say that adversity brings the best out of a person so instead of giving up, get inspired. Find your own way of becoming motivated again.
My family motivates me. I can always depend on my family for words of encouragement and somehow they always sense when I’m not myself. They remind me that I am a first-generation college student and I have the chance to take advantage of an opportunity that my siblings didn’t have. That may seem like something negative to say, but I see that as something positive. Then when I look at my five nieces and three nephews, I tell myself that they are watching me and they will be influenced by the decisions I make.
My community motivates me. I was born and raised on the west side of Chicago and I am proud of my background. However, when I come to school the environment and atmosphere changes. What I mean by that is, apartments turn into homes. I see a variety of races compared to my community which is predominately black.
My point is that I see that there is more to the world than what I was used to seeing while growing up. That motivates me to stay in school because I want to see more and I want to be an example for the ones in my community that it is not impossible. I want to motivate them so they can motivate the next generation and so on.
