Vetoing HPV Vaccine: African-American women are less likely to get the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine, even though it’s one of the most effective ways to protect against the sexually transmitted disease that can cause cervical cancer, according to new research. Dr. James Radosevich, UIC professor of molecular biology and oral diseases, has written a new book about HPV and cancer and can comment. Contact Sam Hostettler, (312) 355-2522; samhos@uic.edu
New Flu Shot: This year, for the first time, a new flu vaccine will fight four strains of the virus instead of three. Vaccines are currently available through the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Science System. Katherine Lee Mosio, UIC clinical assistant professor of pharmacy practice, can comment.
