March on Washington Anniversary: Alfred Tatum, interim dean of the UIC College of Education, specializes in literacy and leadership among young black males and can comment on their status 50 years after “the march for jobs and freedom.” Contact Anne Brooks Ranallo, (312) 355-2523.
Rustin Relevant: As the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington nears, efforts led by organizer Bayard Rustin continue to influence contemporary movements, says John D’Emilio, UIC professor of gender and women’s studies and history. Juries and Assisted Suicide: Jurors’ rely on pre-existing attitudes toward euthanasia to make their verdicts in cases involving physician-assisted suicide, according to Bette Bottoms, UIC professor of psychology. Bike Crashes: The success of Divvy bike-sharing has put more bikes on the road. Siim Soot, a researcher in UIC’s Urban Transportation Center, has studied bike crashes in Chicago and can comment on the best and worst places to ride. Contact Anne Brooks Ranallo, (312) 355-2523.
