UIC Experts
Cold Concerns: More than 40 percent of American parents give their kids under age 4 over-the-counter cold medicines, even though they may cause health concerns, according to a new study. Jan Engle, UIC professor of pharmacy practice, can comment. Contact Sam Hostettler, (312) 355-2522; samhos@uic.edu
Parking Meter Settlement: Despite a lower settlement cost and new benefits, such as free neighborhood parking on Sundays, the Chicago parking meter lease remains a “financial catastrophe,” says Evan McKenzie, UIC associate professor of political science. McKenzie, a licensed attorney and expert on the privatization of municipal services and governance, can comment. Contact Brian Flood, (312) 996-7681; bflood@uic.edu
C Cocktail: Currently, hepatitis C treatments take either 24 or 48 weeks. But a new, five-drug cocktail eliminated the disease in only eight weeks in nearly 88 percent of new patients, according to researchers. Juliana Chan, UIC clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice, can comment. Contact Sam Hostettler, (312) 355-2522; samhos@uic.edu
