2013 Urban Forum considers technology and the city
Technology increasingly drives government and citizenship, health care, workforce development and metropolitan growth.
This year’s UIC Urban Forum will explore the causes and effects of this development at “Technology and the Resilience of Metropolitan Regions,” 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the UIC Forum.
Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares will introduce keynote speaker Toni Preckwinkle, president of the Cook County Board.
Preckwinkle’s talk will be followed by five panel discussions featuring civic, business, academic and health care leaders from around the country, moderated by Chicago journalists.
Topics include:
- Creating Informed Communities: accessible technologies to help enhance the quality of life
- Advanced Technology Driving Our Workforce: the growing effect of technology on tomorrow’s jobs
- Tuning In: how can technology help unite the government with its people?
- High-tech Healthcare: what is the potential global impact of health services with smart technology?
- The Growing Metropolis: how will emerging technologies influence urban growth and development?
- Workforce Development: how can we adapt technology to create and retain jobs?
The event is open to the general public. Registration is required.
