Mississippi Heat headlines the 23rd annual Blues Cabaret.

The University of Illinois at Chicago celebrates Black History Month with the 23rd annual Blues Cabaret, featuring Mississippi Heat.

DETAILS:
Mississippi Heat is an amplified blues band influenced by vintage Chicago blues of the 1950s and led by harmonica virtuoso Pierre Lacocque.

“Delta Bound” (2012) is Mississippi Heat’s fourth recording for Delmark Records, and 10th overall since the Chicago-based band formed in 1991. Some of the band’s recordings have won awards such as “Best Chicago Blues CD of the Year” and “Best Blues Production of the Year.”

Mississippi Heat, known for “traditional blues with a unique sound,” has been the subject of several television and movie features and performed in the U.S. and around the world.

The Blues Cabaret also features Fernando Jones, Chicago bluesman, educator and UIC alumnus. A silent auction of items signed by performers such as Aretha Franklin, B.B. King and Billy Joel will raise funds for UIC scholarships.
