UIC welcomes Japanese delegation

This week, students and faculty from the Jane Addams College of Social Work welcomed a delegation from the department of social welfare in the Osaka Prefecture University School of Humanities and Social Sciences, part of a partnership between the two programs.

The group of 11 students and three faculty members from Osaka, Japan spent seven days in Chicago, five of which were spent with UIC faculty studying school social work, research, human behavior and social work practice.

“These visits serve as a continual effort between UIC and OPU to advance evidence based practice and specifically, school social work globally, in order to support positive youth outcomes for all youth,” says Cassandra McKay-Jackson, associate professor of social work, who along with Annette Johnson, clinical associate professor of social work, helped bring the delegation to UIC.

The delegates also gave presentations at UIC and visited schools and social service agencies within the city of Chicago. Dr. Noriko Yamano, the founder of the school social work program and a top scholar at the Osaka Prefecture University, has led the delegation visits to UIC since 2006.
