UIC to launch Weekend MBA program for fall 2013
The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Liautaud Graduate School of Business is offering a new MBA option with Saturday classes for working professionals who want to earn an MBA while pursuing their careers.
“UIC is excited to increase access to graduate business education in the Chicago metro area,” says Michael Mikhail, dean of the UIC College of Business Administration. “The weekend program provides a high-quality, flexible option for students who are unable to attend class during the week due to professional or personal obligations.”
The Weekend MBA is a variation of the school’s part-time program, says Liautaud assistant dean Mary Corbitt Clark.
“What is new is that the courses are offered on Saturdays,” she said.
Beginning fall 2013, the program will offer students an opportunity to complete the required 54-credit hours in two calendar years, Clark said. The program, accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, is designed to offer strong team-based collaboration, as students will take classes with a cohort of peers.
Students will complete all of the core courses required for the degree during the first year of study. In the second year, students will pursue advanced electives and a concentration. One summer option includes a two-week travel course in Brazil on how to do business there.
All classes will be in the renovated Douglas Hall on the UIC campus. Admission criteria are similar to those of other MBA program offerings, Clark said.
