UIC presents free concerts

Enjoy free lunchtime performances by musical artists every week at Tuesdays at One, sponsored by the  School of Theatre and Music.

All concerts are held from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in Recital Hall L060 on the lower level of the Education, Performing Arts and Social Work Building, 1040 W. Harrison St.

Classical concerts can be heard live on WFMT 98.7, Chicago’s fine arts station.

Here’s the upcoming line-up:

• Sept. 17: Gaudete Brass Quintet – The powerful brass chamber group has appeared in venues from New York’s Symphony Space to Chicago’s Millennium Park. In this performance, they will juxtapose arrangements of Renaissance works with contemporary compositions.

• Sept. 24: David Schrader – In this solo harpsichord recital, Schrader will mix works by Baroque masters Scarlatti and Bach with those of lesser-known contemporaries Sweelinck, Correa de Arauxo and d’Anglebert.

• Oct. 1: Intersection: Jazz Meets Classical Song – Soprano Patrice Michaels, a Cedille recording artist, is “a formidable interpretative talent” (The New Yorker), with “a voice that is light, rich and flexible” (Opera News). She performs with pianist Dana Brown.

• Oct. 8: Eduardo Fernández – One of the leading figures of the classical guitar world, the Uruguayan musician launched his international career more than 30 years ago with an acclaimed New York debut and a London recital that led to an exclusive recording contract with Decca.

• Oct. 15: Third Coast Percussion Ensemble – Hailed by The New Yorker as “vibrant” and “superb,” Third Coast Percussion explores and expands the sonic possibilities of the percussion repertoire.

• Oct. 22: UIC Jazz Ensemble – The ensemble’s recent appearances have included the Jazz Showcase, the Hyde Park Jazz Society and the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival.

Oct. 29: Joseph Genualdi – A violinist celebrated for his work with prestigious chamber music organizations, he will perform music from Mexico and Spain with pianist Beatriz Helguera.

• Nov. 5: Cheryl Wilson Trio, featuring Zvonimir Tot and Larry Gray – a prolific songstress and international recording artist, Wilson will be joined by UIC faculty jazz guitarist, composer and arranger Zvonimir Tot, and bassist Larry Gray.

• Nov. 12: UIC Jazz Combos – Student musicians in UIC’s jazz program perform.

• Nov. 19: Guitar Duo Moderno – Fareed Haque, a modern guitar virtuoso steeped in classical and jazz traditions, performs with guitarist Paul Moeller.

• Nov. 26: LP Duo – Sonja Loncar and Andrija Pavlovic have won more than 30 international awards; they were acclaimed as one of the top 10 duos at the Dranoff Miami Two Pianos Competition.

• Dec. 3:  UIC Chamber Music: Solo and chamber works will be presented by music majors from the UIC School of Theatre and Music.
