UIC launches specialized master’s program in finance

CBA - Finance GroupThe Liautaud Graduate School of Business at the University of Illinois at Chicago will launch a master of science in finance program to begin next fall. The degree will emphasize a strong foundation in principles that underlie modern finance.

The 32-credit-hour degree can be completed in one year of full-time study, or more than one year of part-time study.

Applications are due June 15.

“The new program builds on UIC faculty’s expertise in risk management, derivatives, corporate finance, portfolio management, banking, and global financial markets,” says Gib Bassett, professor and head of finance.

The program will take full advantage of the global financial markets in Chicago, and students will be equipped with the technology for accessing financial information in a state-of-the-art CME Group Foundation Trading Lab.

For those who seek professional certification, the MSF program offers a valuable return, said Mary Clark, assistant dean of the Liautaud Graduate School of Business.

Graduates of the program “will be well prepared to take the professional exams that measure the competence and integrity of financial analysts and will also be prepared for certifications in independent risk management and decision-making,” Clark said. “Holders of these certificates gain a competitive edge and are typically rewarded with higher salaries.”

In addition to the new MSF, the Liautaud Graduate School of Business offers master’s degrees in accounting and management information systems, as well as the MBA, which can be pursued full-time, part-time, on weekends, or in an accelerated, one-year format.

Candidates apply through the Liautaud Graduate School of Business.  More information is available at business.uic.edu/msf or contact Caroline La Torre, director of recruiting and enrollment, latorre2@uic.edu or (312) 996-4573.
