UIC helps move ‘Chicago Forward’
UIC is partnering with the Chicago Tribune on its “Chicago Forward” series, which examines ways to reach, engage and empower disconnected youth in the city.
UIC is among sponsors of the six-month series, which launched Jan. 9 and includes op-ed pieces, articles and events to bring the city together with the goal of re-energizing disengaged youth.
“Chicago faces challenges that will determine if this remains a vital city,” Chicago Tribune Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Bruce Dold wrote in a letter announcing the series in the Jan. 9 Chicago Tribune. “One of those challenges: Many young people here are at risk of becoming disengaged, of dropping out of school, disconnecting from family, missing opportunities for careers, losing hope.
“This campaign will engage our readers in a search for the best ways to prepare young people to live fulfilling, productive lives and contribute to the well-being of our city.”
An ad highlighting UIC as a sponsor appeared in the Jan. 12 edition of the Chicago Tribune. Other sponsors include AT&T, Bank of America and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation.
During the first event of the series Feb. 24, Dold will lead a discussion on empowering Chicago’s at-risk youth.
