UIC celebrates Earth Month
“My focus this year is trees and bees,” says Lisa Sanzenbacher, community outreach and program coordinator of UIC’s Office of Sustainability.
For Earth Month, the Office of Sustainability is putting on events to promote a healthy and environmentally aware campus. Events include community gardening, bike riding, greenhouse tours, and more.
As a campus long dedicated to environmental sustainability, UIC has been named a USA Tree Campus since 2011. A Tree Campus is one whose community is actively involved in effective management of trees.
UIC was also recently named the first Bee Campus in the state of Illinois. As a community, UIC has made a promise to grow more plants that will attract bees and other pollinators.
Sanzenbacher is excited about UIC’s Earth Month activities.“
It’s fun to promote our Climate Commitments to people who have never heard of them.”
