UI Health unveils new children’s playroom
WHAT:
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System will dedicate a newly renovated playroom for patients.
The kid-friendly space was made possible with support from Starlight Children’s Foundation and a generous donation provided by Northwestern University Dance Marathon. Representatives from Starlight and Dance Marathon will join kids, families and hospital staff to celebrate the new space with a special unveiling ceremony.
The playroom is designed and equipped to stir the imagination, ease stress and assist in healing for kids and teens experiencing long hospital stays or undergoing medical treatments.
The refurbished playroom is enhanced with fresh paint, new lighting and cabinets, comfortable furniture, a state-of-the-art gaming system and audiovisual equipment, a built-in dollhouse, a Lego wall, an area specially designed for infants, and a dishwasher to sanitize toys, among other modern amenities. The upgraded space allows easier access for patients with physical disabilities so they can enjoy the room with their families and other patients.
