UI Health, Chicago Lighthouse co-host anophthalmia conference
The 8th International Children’s Anophthalmia Network (ican) Conference will include educational workshops, presentations by medical experts, free medical and genetic consultations for children and families, and opportunities to meet others affected by anophthalmia, the absence of one or both eyes.
Dr. Nathalie Azar, associate professor of clinical ophthalmology in the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, will evaluate children with anophthalmia at UI Health’s Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary on July 12. Dr. Janet Szlyk, Chicago Lighthouse president and professor of ophthalmology and visual science at UIC, will discuss low vision technology.

The Chicago Lighthouse will provide childcare and special programs for children with anophthalmia or microphthalmia (where the eyes are very small) and their siblings on July 13.
