U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley to talk at UIC Nov. 23
The University of Illinois at Chicago political science department presents “The Role of the Federal Government in Chicago’s Future,” a talk by U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-5th).
WHEN:
Nov. 23
Noon to 12:50 p.m.
WHERE:
Behavioral Sciences Building, Room 140
1007 W. Harrison St.
DETAILS:
Congressman Mike Quigley will discuss how federal investment can benefit the local economy, jobs, housing and social services — and the challenges of legislative gridlock.
Quigley was elected to represent Illinois’ fifth district in April 2009. A former Cook County commissioner who began his career as an aide to former 44th ward alderman Bernie Hansen, Quigley has served his community in government for more than 30 years.
Quigley is the only Illinois member of the House Committee on Appropriations, and at the start of the 114th Congress he was appointed by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to serve on the influential House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Quigley’s talk is part of the UIC political science department’s annual “Future of Chicago” lecture series, which brings civic leaders to campus to examine issues with students and the community. Series co-sponsors are the UIC Honors College and the UIC Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement.
Admission is free and open to the public. For more information call (312) 413-3780.
