UIC transportation forum questions governance

Transportation experts and elected officials will address vital transit governance issues and how the Chicago region compares nationally in a forum at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

“Best Practices in Regional Transit Governance,” panel discussions and presentations on changes needed in Chicago regional transit.

DETAILS:

The forum will address the ability of transit agencies to respond to changing and expanding transportation demands shaped by governments and organizations.

Presentations will include a history of the Chicago regional transit system and an analysis of best practices in transit governance.

Panel discussions will focus on whether a change in governance will improve the transit network and projections of the region’s transit future.

  • Kathy Tholin, CEO, Center for Neighborhood Technology
  • State Rep. Michael W. Tryon

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle have been invited to speak.

The UIC Urban Transportation Center will co-host this forum with TransitCenter, an independent civic organization, and the Eno Center for Transportation, a non-partisan think tank. “Getting to the Route of It: The Role of Governance in Regional Transit,” a paper by the latter organizations, may be downloaded free of charge.
