Three shows your friends have been begging you to watch

For those of you who read my blog, you may know that once in a while I like to come out with suggestion piece, persuasive essays if you will, which is why this week I’m writing to let you know what shows you have been missing out on. With midterms coming up, I am sure you none of you need an extra distraction in your lives, but with that being said what else are you going to do to fill the breaks between studying for calculus and writing your paper for Greek mythology? Take a walk? Call your parents? Read a book!? I didn’t think so.

So, on behalf of all your friends who have been harassing you to start watching the shows they’re watching so they could freak out about them with you, I will give you a list of some must watch shows that you need start. And yes, you should be having some serious FOMO at the moment.

Broad City

Comedy Central

This hilarious show is about two twenty-something women living in New York City. While this may sound somewhat ordinary and overdone, the show presents their lives as raw and all too real, making them both relatable and absolutely hilarious. With that being said, my guy friends find it equally as entertaining so don’t let the title and your preconceived notions on gender throw you off! While you may start at any episode, I strongly suggest beginning with E1S1, simply because you’re going to want to watch every single one. This progressive show ruthlessly demolishes stereotypes, gender norms, and is absolutely a must see for all young adults who love to laugh. Season three just started, so try and catch up!

This dark comedy takes place in our very on town, Chicago. The first episode of the show begins with an inside look at an extremely discombobulated family that has quite a bit of issues, yet it manages to put a quirky spin on the fact that they are severely struggling. Equipped with a phenomenal cast, this show keeps you on their edge of your seat while managing to make you laugh here and there. While I don’t want to give away too much of the juicy, and at times ridiculous, drama, I will say that being able to recognize where the different scenes are filmed is a huge bonus to this already fantastic show that puts a spot light on this gritty low class Chicago family.

 

Making a Murderer

Now I am sure that any of you who watch the news or read Buzzfeed have already heard enough about this jaw-dropping documentary, but being a poly sci minor I have to say that this titillating documentary not only serves as a thrilling real life murder mystery, but also as a reminder of how corrupt the justice system throughout America is and can be. The life of Steven Avery seems to be over within the first episode and I remember thinking to myself, “How can they make this into a whole season of episodes?” Trust me when I say it could have been double that. While after the first episode you may make up your mind about Steven Avery, the events that follow turn your world upside down and put you through a roller coaster of emotions. After my friends and family had binged watched this series, we spent hours (not kidding) debating and giving our theories on what really happened on that fateful afternoon in the small county in Wisconsin. The greatest part of this documentary is that even though it ends as though the fate of all victims in this Manitowoc County scandal are sealed, with all the attention and hype it has been getting from news outlets and on social media, the case has taken a new turn.
