Students honored as ‘future care scholars’
Two UIC students — one in medicine, the other in nursing — are among 40 health care students nationwide to be named 2012 Tylenol Future Care Scholars.
David Holt, a second-year medical student at the College of Medicine at Peoria, and Yeyin Ye, an advanced degree nursing student in the College of Nursing, were selected for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement.
The application for the scholarship included an essay.
“I have developed an intense interest in understanding what I can do to better people’s lives through improving their health,” Holt wrote. “Medicine is the area where I feel I can make the most meaningful impact.”
An acute care nurse with years of experience in caring for trauma and post-operative patients, Ye is enrolled in the BSN to DPN (doctor of nursing practice) program in the acute care nurse practitioner track and plans to teach nursing.
“I believe that nursing students value and respect curriculum taught by faculty who can draw from their clinical experience,” Ye said.
“At the doctoral nursing practice level, I envision myself working closely with people from other disciplines in creating innovative health care delivery models for our national health care systems, aging population and modern-technological society.”
The scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000.
