The women’s gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season (194.625) but lost to No. 12 Denver  (195.850) Saturday at the Physical Education Building.

The Flames produced top-three finishes five times after combining on vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor.

Senior Chantel Turk came away with high scores in four events: taking first in the all-around (39.300), second on vault (9.875), fourth on parallel bars (9.850) and tying for third on floor (9.850).

Sophomore Alyssa Cruz captured first on the balance beam with a 9.800.

Turk finished behind a three-way tie for second with a final of 9.725.

Kimberly Randall tied for third on vault (9.850) and Citlali Cuevas tied for third in the all-around (38.925).

The Flames travel to Denton, Texas, Sunday to take on Texas Women’s, Air Force and Centenary at 2 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena.

Track’s ‘tune up’ for tourney

The Karkalis twins stole the show for the track and field teams at Friday’s Panther Tune-Up.

Angelos Karkalis brought home the individual title in the 800-meter run and Photis Karkalis took second in the 1-mile run.

The meet served as the final “tune up” for the indoor season, heading into next weekend’s Horizon League Indoor Championship in Youngstown, Ohio.

Angelos Karkalis crossed the finish line in 1:55.15, outpacing the field of nine runners. Meanwhile, Photis Karkalis ran the 1-mile run in 4:21.00.

Gunnar Sterne finished second in the 800-meter run (1:55.85.

Aimee Schuh placed third in the long jump (5.05 meters) and 60-meter hurdles (9.12 seconds).

Zach Harman (12.20 meters in the weight throw) and Jordan Banks, who leaped 12.81 meters in the triple jump, both collected third-place individual tallies.

The Horizon League Indoor Championship will be held  Saturday and Sunday at Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown, Ohio, from Feb. 23-24.
