Track, field compete at invitational, relays
The men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in split action last weekend, taking on opponents at the Tadd Metzger Carthage Invitational in Kenosha, Wis., and the Indiana University Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
At the Tadd Metzger Invite, UIC collected 19 Top 10 finishes, including three first-place finishes. The women’s team finished fourth in the eight-team field, and the men took sixth in a field of nine teams.
Individuals crossing the line in first place included Jaime Johnson (5:12.67) and Photis Karkalis (4:19.56) in the 1-mile run, and Aimee Schuh in the 55-meter hurdles.
Meanwhile, at the Indiana Relays, Tess Ehrhardt set the school record in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finishing line in 10:08.65, for a third-place finish. Ehrhardt, Andrea Crump and Anthony Hollingsworth put together three Top 10 finishes individually.
On Saturday, Rebecca Zaiter won her heat of the 800-meter run, crossing the finishing line in 2:12.99. Her race had 43 competitors.
“We had a solid weekend in both Kenosha and Bloomington,” head coach Jim Knoedel said. “I was especially impressed with Tess Ehrhardt — she looked very strong this week in practice so I could tell she was ready to crush the school record. It was a very competitive field, and she demonstrated how tough she is.”
