Seniors stand out at track meet
Seniors Anthony Hollingsworth and Andrea Crump each won multiple events, highlighting the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Friday night’s Cardinal Invitational in Naperville.
Crump won three events and Hollingsworth took home two individual titles.
UIC finished fourth overall on the men’s side (82), and third in the women’s team competition (87).
“We had much more competition this weekend,” head coach Jim Knoede said. “The team continues to show improvement and I am excited to see what more we have left in the weeks ahead.”
Hollingsworth captured the individual titles in the 60-meter dash (6.91 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (22.37 seconds). Crump claimed medalist honors in the long jump (5.69 meters), triple jump (11.95 meters) and 60-meter dash (7.80 seconds).
UIC travels to Kenosha, Wis., Friday to compete in the annual Todd Metzger Carthage Invitational. Races start at 3:30 p.m.
Along with Crump’s standout performance, the Flames also picked up a pair of additional first-place finishes on the women’s side, including Aimee Schuh in the 60-meter hurdles (9.12 seconds), and the combination of Emma Preston, Michelle Kanpczyk, Jaime Johnson and Tess Ehrhardt in the distance medley relay (12:35.51).
Angelos Karkalis also posted a strong showing, finishing third in the 1-Mile Run (4:17.59) and second in the 800-meter run (1:56.01).
