Proud president
As you all should know by now, I am the President of the Student Activities Board at UIC. I have been with the Student Activities Board since its origin, which to everyone’s shock is only three years ago. Despite being a fairly new organization, we have made a huge impact not only on our campus, but also to universities all across the Midwest region of America.
Since we have started, we have brought a variety of events that range from bringing in actor and former White House political adviser Kal Penn to even bringing zip lines across campus. We have truly broken every preconceived notion of what could not be done on campus and what students like and don’t like.
Just recently, we learned that the Student Activities Board at UIC was nominated for the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Mid-America’s Innovative Program and Program of the Year awards. We were nominated for our events “JAWS: Dive in Movie” and “Final Fling,” respectively. These events could not be planned without the help of many departments across the university, such as Campus Programs, CRSC, Student Recreation, Meetings and Conferences, and many more. These events would not have been successful were it not for the student body providing support and attending these events.
In addition to being nominated for these prestigious awards, we have also been asked to present at the annual regional conference on the topic of building a community through the use of Student Activities Board.
NACA consist of hundreds of universities across America. To be nominated and asked to present is an esteemed honor. I am proud of the organization, the members, advisor and the support system that we are building on campus. Please continue to support us and provide suggestions on what you would like to see in the future.
Christian Gray is a senior majoring in marketing with a focus in promotion and communications and a minor in economics. He is president of the Student Activities Board. When he’s not planning events or doing schoolwork, you’ll catch him watching something sports related (#KOBE) or vibing out to music. His career goal growing up was to be Batman. He won’t tell you if he was successful on that mission, but let’s be real – have you ever seen him and Batman in the same place before?
