Pharmacy professor wins Literature Award

Glen Schumock, professor and head of pharmacy systems, outcomes and policy in the College of Pharmacy, received the 2014 Literature Award for Sustained Contributions from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation.

The awards are given for high-impact articles in the primary, peer-reviewed journals. Emphasis is placed on originality, innovation, impact and quality.

“I really appreciate receiving this award, and I want to thank the foundation and the selection committee, as well as those who nominated me,” Schumock said.

“More importantly, I thank all of the colleagues I have worked with over the years on the articles we have published. I get a lot of intrinsic enjoyment from writing and publishing, so receiving this award is doubly rewarding.”

The foundation will recognize Schumock at the 2014 ASHP Midyear Clinical meeting in Anaheim, Calif., Dec. 10.

Schumock’s research interests include the economic impact, clinical effectiveness and safety of pharmaceuticals and related services or policies. He was the principal investigator of the UIC/Chicago-Area DEcIDE-2 (Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions about Effectiveness) Research Center, one of 11 centers in the U.S. funded by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He led research funded under the FDA Mini-Sentinel program.

Schumock has written and edited more than 200 articles and books, and serves on the editorial board of several journals. He is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
