Open House at New Mile Square Englewood Clinic
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is celebrating the newest addition to the Mile Square federally qualified health center network, the Englewood Clinic, with an open house and tour on Thursday, Oct. 4, from noon to 4 p.m.
Dr. Joe G.N. “Skip” Garcia, vice president for health affairs at the University of Illinois, and Henry Taylor, executive director of Mile Square Health Center, will welcome U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis, State Sen. Matti Hunter, Chicago Alderman Toni Foulkes and members of the public to the Englewood Clinic, 641 W. 63rd St.
The Englewood Clinic provides all primary care services with an emphasis on women and children’s health. Nurse midwives from the UI Health System have provided women’s health care to the Englewood Clinic for the past seven years, prior to Mile Square’s takeover of the administration of the clinic.
UI Health, through its Mile Square Health Center, was awarded a contract to run the former city of Chicago’s Englewood Clinic beginning last July 2.
“The Englewood community is one of the most economically, medically and socially challenged communities in the City of Chicago,” Taylor said. “We want to thank the city of Chicago for entrusting us with the opportunity to improve the quality of life and health status for patients who live in the Englewood community.”
“Our focus is on creating comprehensive care and making that care available to underserved populations,” said Garcia. “We will bring personalized, high quality primary care to the clinic and, when needed, tap into the specialized care resources of the UI Health System.”
Health care services at Mile Square Englewood include comprehensive, culturally competent, high quality primary care, pregnancy testing and individual case management to assist patients and reduce barriers to care. In addition, Mile Square supports community education, outreach and advocacy services to promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.
Founded in 1968, Mile Square is one of the oldest community health centers in Chicago. As a federally qualified health center, Mile Square is dedicated to providing high quality, cost-effective, accessible, and holistic healthcare that meets the needs of the community. Delivery of this personalized care will be further enhanced in the Englewood clinic by providing the community direct access to world-renowned physicians and researchers at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System.
Mile Square currently provides a range of medical, dental, mental health, and social services to nearly 20,000 patients every year. Mile Square accepts most insurance plans including Medicaid and Medicare and has a sliding fee scale for those without insurance. Services are provided without regard to ability to pay.
Mile Square currently includes 11 federally qualified health centers. The Englewood Clinic will join four regional primary care clinics including the main site, Mile Square Health Center on Washington Boulevard, the South Shore, Back of the Yards, and Cicero clinics.
Hours at the Englewood Clinic will be 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with after-hours and weekend care available through the University of Illinois Mile Square Health Center network.
