New delay for Harrison Street Bridge demolition
April 8 has turned into April 28.
Unforeseen construction conditions and unfavorable weather have caused delays to many segments of the Circle Interchange construction project.
Demolition of the Harrison Street Bridge spanning the Kennedy Expressway, originally scheduled for April 8, has been pushed back to April 28.
To expedite the demolition, work will be performed around the clock. UIC officials are awaiting a response from the Illinois Department of Transportation to a campus request to suspend work in the evening during finals week.
Traffic changes at the intersection of Harrison and Halsted Streets were made for utility work. The westbound lanes on Harrison will remain closed until May 8.
Visitors and students coming to campus for commencement ceremonies May 2 through 11 should expect extra traffic due to construction on Halsted, Morgan and Harrison streets and bridges.
