Media Advisory: UIC chancellor to help freshmen move into dorms

University of Illinois at Chicago Chancellor Michael Amiridis and his wife, Ero Aggelopoulou-Amiridis, will greet incoming freshmen and help them move into the residence halls on UIC’s Move-In Day.

Wednesday, Aug. 19, 10-11:30 a.m.
(Students will move in from 8 a.m. t0 4 p.m.)

Southwest corner of Harrison and Halsted streets

DETAILS:
Dozens of UIC administrators and student athletes will help more than 850 new freshmen move into UIC’s nine dormitories from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. In all, 1,250 freshmen will live on campus, along with 1,950 other students.

“We are thrilled to welcome all our students to campus, and a special welcome goes to our new freshmen and transfer students. They have a chosen a great university, and we are committed to providing them with the education that they will need to realize their dreams,” Michael Amiridis said.

Amiridis came to UIC in March after serving as executive vice president for academic affairs, provost, and professor of chemical engineering at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki in Greece and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Freshmen will be welcomed by UIC’s residence life team with New Student Days, a five-day orientation to familiarize freshmen with each other, the UIC campus, and Chicago’s neighborhoods, culture and recreation before classes begin.
