‘World History of Design’ presented at UIC

The first two volumes of “World History of Design” feature 900 illustrations.

Victor Margolin, professor emeritus of design history at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will introduce his new, two-volume work, “World History of Design,” an illustrated global history of design from the prehistoric era through World War II.

DETAILS:
Margolin will speak briefly on his “World History of Design” and present a copy to the UIC Daley Library. The result of 15 years of research, it is the first comprehensive history to cover design on a global scale.

The first two volumes, published by Bloomsbury Publishing, include about 900 images. A third volume in process will cover design from the end of World War II to the present.

Margolin will join a panel discussion on “Design History: Scholarship, Pedagogy, and Practice” with Philip Burton, UIC professor and chair of graphic design; Amir Berbic, UIC associate professor of graphic design; and Jonathan Mekinda, UIC assistant professor of design history.
