Looking for a job?
Never been to a career fair? Well, now is your opportunity. UIC will host the Fall Diversity Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the UIC Forum located at 725 W. Roosevelt Road, about a 10 minute walk from Student East Center. There will be company representatives from over 125 organizations in various industry fields who will be conducting face-to-face interviews.
Word of advice: Make a great first impression. You should wear business professional attire. Business suits are recommended, accompanied with a big smile and a firm handshake. That should leave the representative with a pleasant memory of you.
Next, you should bring multiple copies of your résumé. Now you may be looking at your résumé and saying that it could use some work. No need to stress because on Thursday, there will be a résumé workshop on campus to build a résumé or simply make the appropriate changes to the one you already have. This workshop will be held in Student Center East Cardinal Room, from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
I remember attending a career fair my freshman year. Even though it was early on in my college years, I gained valuable knowledge about how to approach company representatives and received feedback on my résumé. I also got a chance to observe the upperclassmen interact with business professionals. So, to the freshmen: it’s never too early to begin exposing yourself to the career industry. Let your face be seen now.
