Light at the end of the tunnel
In six weeks, I will be done student teaching. In eight weeks, the semester will be over. On one hand, I wish it could slow down a bit so I can take it all in. This has been such an amazing experience. I couldn’t have landed at a better place! On the other hand, I’m ready to finally be licensed and on the job hunt (and hopefully hired quickly). One day at a time. It’s midterms…and I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
This week we started a new study on community helpers. We learned about doctors and nurses. The children learned about what a doctor does and the tools he/she uses. We looked at tools in the doctor bag, each child picked out a tool and we learned what each tool is used for. Then they made their own doctor bag by gluing items on the construction paper bag. They had fun pretending to be a doctor in the dramatic play area.
“B” is for Band-Aid.
The children put Band-Aids on the letter “B.” They also decorated an outline of a person and decided where the “owie” was and put a Band-Aid on that part of the body. They also had a new activity in the water table this week. They experimented with different tools such as a syringe, eyedropper, turkey baster and other items to see how the water can move.
On Thursday, we visited the nurse’s office. Nurse Anne showed us her office and some of her tools like her stethoscope and thermometer. She also showed us the materials she uses for the vision and hearing test. Since each child will have their hearing and vision tested at some time, it was good practice for the children to visit the office so it will be a familiar, safe place when they need to go at another time.
Until next time…
