I am UIC: Stand-up comedy With Hasan Minhaj
Comedian and actor Hasan Minhaj was invited to the UIC Forum for an exclusive stand-up comedy session with UIC students and employees Feb. 10.
There was a great turnout for Minhaj, the senior correspondent on “The Daily Show.” The show focused on different societal issues such as immigration, terrorism, racism and discrimination. The comedian addressed these sensitive social issues respectfully, and simultaneously entertained the audience.
The comedian had an uncommon way of depicting and illustrating his jokes. As he told his jokes, Minhaj would display videos addressing the situation or perhaps the person being mocked. This idea of a visual image while he provided a funny commentary was a unique way of constantly engaging the audience.
A significant aspect of his show was devoted to immigration in the Unites States. Minhaj connected this situation to a broader societal topic saying, “The question is whether Americans can adopt American values; immigration is a fundamental American value.”
