Holocaust Historian to Discuss Eichmann Trial

“The Eichmann Trial: Looking Back After 50 Years.” The University of Illinois at Chicago presents a lecture and conversation with historian Deborah Lipstadt, Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust studies at Emory University.

DETAILS:
Lipstadt, an internationally prominent scholar and author, will examine the post-World War II trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann as a critical factor in the world’s perception of the Holocaust.

The talk will be followed by a discussion between Lipstadt and Matthew Lippman, UIC professor of criminology, law and justice, and a leading legal expert on the Holocaust. His research interests include human rights and international criminal law, constitutional law, and the legal history of war.

The talk and discussion center on the subject of Lipstadt’s most recent book “The Eichmann Trial.” She has written extensively on Holocaust issues and denial, including “History on Trial: My Day in Court with David Irving” and “Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory,” the first full-length study of Holocaust deniers.

The event, sponsored by the department of criminology, law and justice, honors Lippman, who is retiring from UIC after 28 years of service. A reception will follow the presentation.
