Have your voice heard

The UIC English department is accepting submissions for the #YourVoiceMatters campaign, which will feature various forms of creative writing from students. This project aims to showcase the different socioeconomic, ethnic and racial backgrounds of UIC students and how it has inspired them to write on their perspectives.

The campaign will be turned into a magazine at the end of the semester and physical copies will be handed out on campus.

Individual writing samples will be blasted on the official UIC English Twitter page, as well as featured on their student curated website. Students from all majors are encouraged to submit their writing — poetry, nonfiction, essays, reviews, prose, interviews and more — to bwilli49@uic.edu with the subject line “My Voice Matters.”

It cannot go unnoticed that the UIC Latino Cultural Center has been working hard to create a safe space for students in this political climate. The center is initiating an ‘ARTivism’ project to promote works of art created by students that evoke political change and social justice. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 27.
