Get connected, get involved during Weeks of Welcome

As a new semester begins, there’s a lot going on at UIC. Campus groups and student organizations are hosting a variety of events for UIC’s Weeks of Welcome through Sept. 27 to let students know what UIC has to offer. “Involvement is a really great way to engage and feel connected on campus,” said Rhonda Laylo, program coordinator in Campus Programs.
Here’s what’s coming up in the next week:
Involvement Fair
Today, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., UIC quad
Connect with more than 200 diverse organizations and student service departments at UIC. Find whatever piques your interest and get involved.
“Involvement Fair is a great opportunity to engage with the largest amount of student organizations on campus,” Laylo said. “Students can connect one-on-one.”
Honors College Student Organization Open House
Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
109 Burnham Hall
Are you an honors student or interested in becoming one? Meet new members, get your foot in the door and learn what the college is all about.
On-campus Job Fair
Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m.
Illinois Room, Student Center East
On-campus jobs are great: close to your classes, flexible and fun! See what on-campus jobs are available with UIC departments that recruit student employees.
Spark in the Park
Thursday, 7:30 to 10 p.m., UIC Pavilion
Free concert for the UIC community, featuring J-Cole with special guest Bas. You must have a valid UIC i-card to attend. Want some free food? Check out NewmanFest, a pre-party for the music festival, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on the Newman Center lawn.
CAN/WLRC Block Party and BBQ
Friday, noon to 4 p.m.
Roosevelt Road Building parking lot
Check out the new location for the Women’s Leadership and Resource Center and the Campus Advocacy Network. The new space, 286 Roosevelt Road Building, features a comfortable lounge, work stations, gender-neutral bathrooms, a lactation relaxation room, library, kitchen and more. The event features free food and raffle prizes.

Men’s soccer
Friday, 7 p.m., Flames Field
Support your team and cheer on the Flames as they take on Michigan State University. All UIC sports events are free for students with a valid i-card.
Mud Bowl
Sunday, 3-6 p.m.
Outdoor Field Complex, 900 W. 14th Place
Take part in this unique UIC event before the Outdoor Field Complex is turned into turf. Play mud volleyball, mud ultimate Frisbee, mud rugby — or just watch. Free food and giveaways for participants and spectators.
“The Mud Bowl is a unique opportunity to have fun with your friends and get muddy,” said Nate Scott, associate director of Campus Recreation. “We normally preserve the grass so we have a nice field for our students.”
The day after the Mud Bowl, UIC will begin an artificial turf project, a “really major improvement for campus life,” Scott said. “Artificial turf will ensure that practice on the fields will not have to be cancelled due to rain in the future.”
Interfraternity Council Fall Recruitment
