Fresh start
Coming back to school can mean a lot of things for the students, faculty and staff here at UIC. It can represent a bittersweet end to a much-needed break or it can be a fresh start to a new semester in which all students begin on the same track. I like looking on the bright side of things, so for myself this will be a fresh start to a productive semester. The good thing about starting fresh is that students have the ability to get off to a great start; all students begin the courses with the same grade, which is a zero. This simply means that the first couple of assignments will have a great impact on your grade. My advice to you is to be flawless in the beginning of the semester.
Another tip from me to you is to come to class the first week of the semester every day and be on time. This is crucial because a lot of vital information is given during that time. I have noticed during previous semesters that the students that decide not to come to class will be the same students that ask the questions that were answered during the first week of classes. Don’t be that student. Make a good impression on your instructors and teaching assistants and show that you are ready to learn this semester. I have been told that instructors recognize and appreciate students who are responsible. The first week of classes is also the time to introduce yourself and we all know that the first time you meet a person will last a lifetime. You don’t want your first interaction to be coming to class late the second week of classes.
I was pretty excited to get this semester going after having a productive one last semester. I passed all my classes and I understand that hard work pays off.
Matthew Maggit is a sophomore in accounting in the College of Business Administration. Matthew decided to come to UIC because of the business program’s reputation and because he wanted to study at a campus with a diverse atmosphere. He likes how close the campus is to downtown Chicago and the Willis Tower. In his free time, he loves to surround myself with loved ones, and he enjoys sports and going to the gym.
