Former Wyoming standout boosts Flames’ performance

Chris McMillian, a basketball standout under UIC head coach Steve McClain at the University of Wyoming, joined the men’s basketball staff as director of player performance.

McMillian played for McClain at the University of Wyoming from 1998 to 2003. He started at point guard all four years for the Cowboys and helped the team to two Mountain West Conference championships and one NCAA tournament berth in 2002. He ranks fourth all-time at Wyoming with 434 career assists and sixth with 136 steals. He is second with 93 consecutive starts and his 3.5 assists per game ranks in the top 15.

McMillian was assistant men’s basketball coach at the College of Southern Idaho last season. He was men’s basketball strength coach and video coordinator at University of Hawaii from 2010 to 2012 and director of basketball operations from 2012 to 2014.

Before Hawaii, McMillian was director of men’s basketball operations at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, where his responsibilities included video, strength and conditioning.

McMillian was a personal trainer and performance specialist in Phoenix, Arizona, for six years. A native of Brea, California, he has a degree in communications from University of Wyoming and a master’s in educational administration from the University of Hawaii.
