Former basketball Flame competes in NBA Summer League

Kelsey Barlow played during the 2014-15 season with the NBA D-League’s Grand Rapids Drive.

Former UIC guard Kelsey Barlow scored 12 points in his Orlando Pro Summer League debut Monday night after joining the Detroit Pistons’s NBA Summer League roster July 3.

Barlow, who led the Flames in scoring (14.8 points per game) assists (3.9) and steals (1.0) during the 2013-14 campaign, spent last season with the NBA D-League’s Grand Rapids Drive.

Barlow played 18 minutes against the Miami Heat Monday and converted 5-of-8 field goal attempts. He was 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and dished out a team-high four assists. He collected three rebounds, a block and a steal.

The Orlando Pro Summer League continues Wednesday as the Pistons play the Indiana Pacers at 2 p.m. The squad concludes action Friday with a championship-ladder game. All games are televised on NBATV and streamed live.

The NBA Summer League features off-season games where teams try out different rosters, including rookies, bench players, free agents and players from other NBA leagues.

Barlow played 45 games and averaged 7.2 points per game during the 2014-15 season with the NBA D-League’s Grand Rapids Drive.

He earned 22 starts for the Drive and played 21.8 minutes per contest. He drained 47 three-pointers and converted 81.7 percent of his free-throw attempts.
