Flames to retire No. 11 jersey

Kenny Williams was the first UIC Flame to eclipse 2,000 career points.

One of the greatest UIC Flames basketball players, Kenny Williams, will have his No. 11 jersey retired in a pregame ceremony Friday as the men’s basketball team hosts the Detroit Titans.

“Not only was he one of the most dominant scorers in Flames history, but he has also been a great ambassador for UIC,” UIC Athletic Director Jim Schmidt said. “He represents all the qualities we want in our student-athletes and alumni by completing his degree, serving the community and being supportive of our athletic programs.”

Williams arrived at UIC in the fall of 1990 and he left an indelible mark on the program over the next four seasons. By the time the buzzer sounded on his collegiate career in 1994, Williams had become the first player in program history to eclipse 2,000 career points, finishing with 2,025. He was also the second player to register more than 200 steals and remains UIC’s all-time leader with 237 career thefts. He remains in the top three in program history in points, steals, assists, field-goal attempts, field-goals made, free-throw attempts and free-throws made.

Williams, the third Flames basketball player to have his number retired, was inducted into the UIC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.

“I am truly humbled and elated with this honor,” Williams said.
