Flames split doubleheader with Youngstown State
UIC (23-24, 14-8 Horizon League) finished their five-game home stand Sunday with a 4-1 record after splitting a doubleheader with Youngstown State (11-31, 4-15 Horizon League). The Flames won three of four games in the weekend doubleheader series with Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State.
UIC travels to Wright State Friday for a matchup between the top two teams in the Horizon League.
Game 1: UIC 7, Youngstown State 2
Jake Dahlberg picked up his fifth win allowing one run over 5.1 innings to extend the Flames winning streak to six games. The left-hander breezed through four innings without allowing a hit. UIC used two big innings to stifle Youngstown State and reach the .500 mark on the season. The Flames scored four times in the fourth inning and three more in the eighth. Ricardo Ramirez snapped an 0-15 slump, going 2-4 with three RBI and Cody Bohanek added three hits with two runs scored.
Game 2: Youngstown 1, UIC 0
The Flames managed just three hits as Youngstown State edged out a 1-0 win. In three consecutive innings, UIC had runners on second and third base with less than two outs but didn’t score. Youngstown scored the lone run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Mitchell Schulewitz took the loss despite 7.0 solid innings of four-hit baseball.
